J. Thomas Jewelers began in 1995 as a small, independently owned jewelry store with just two employees and a 700-square-foot showroom. From those humble beginnings, the store has grown into one of Rochester Hills’ most trusted jewelry stores—a place where families come to celebrate life’s most meaningful moments.
By 2010, J. Thomas Jewelers relocated to its current, expanded showroom, establishing itself as an anchor in the plaza. Now, 30 years later, J. Thomas Jewelers is more than just a jewelry store—it’s part of the love stories and milestones of families across Michigan. From engagements and anniversaries to birthdays and “just because” moments, we’ve been honored to celebrate with you every step of the way.

Over the years, the store has been part of countless love stories, including one unforgettable moment when Duane surprised Michelle by landing a helicopter in the park where she was enjoying a picnic with her family. That proposal began a love story that has inspired generations.
Guests frequently share their engagement and wedding photos, proudly displayed in the store’s Diamond Room—a visual celebration of the extended J. Thomas family. It’s always special when new visitors spot a familiar face in those photos.
Another beloved tradition is the Rock Jar. Couples sign a rock to commemorate their engagement and add it to the collection—a simple, lasting symbol of the love stories J. Thomas has been honored to help begin.
