The Jewelers Collective did an interview with Pia Aiya. Pia, the daughter of Sunny Aiya, has made a huge impact on her father’s jewelry business. Pia’s journey into the jewelry world was out of the ordinary for her. Originally, she was studying biochemistry and even got into medical school. She decided to work for her dad during her gap year. After a couple of trade shows, Pia began to fall in love with jewelry.
Pia is now very involved with the jewelry collections. She is the director of operations and co-designs alongside her dad, Sunny. They have a total of three collections: PiYaRo, Aiya Designs, and The Lustour.
PiYaRo was launched 15 years ago. It is known as their luxury brand. The collection features sterling silver, 14k gold accents, and diamonds. Aiya Designs includes salt and pepper naturally mined diamonds. These colors give the jewelry a unique look. This collection also has both fashion and bridal jewelry. Lastly, The Lustour was released in 2000. This collection uses lab-created gemstones. A newer gemstone is lusterine, which changes to four different colors depending on the lighting.
Pia said most of her design inspiration comes from her travels. Especially historic and unique places rather than tourist sites. It was inspiring to read Pia’s story about how she got started in jewelry. We now sell PiYaRo here at J. Thomas Jewelers.
